The traditional cuisine of our island is very rich and varied. All basic ingredients are local products of the land and sea. In the coastal areas there are many dishes in which fish is the dominant material, although it should be noted that many other products are used from our land that being either meat or vegetables. Whilst studying our recipe intinery, we realize that many vegetables are present in most of our dishes.
Among the highlights of pastry, especially the famous ensaimada is a typical craftsmanship in which the experience is fundamental for the producer to give the product its characteristics. Today, Ensaimada pastry is the product par excellence with which it identifies the island of Majorca and has a great social recognition. In this sense, tourism developed on the island has allowed this product to acquire international recognition.
The Ensaimada earned its protection as a specified domination in 1996 and in April 2003.
