We are sure you have heard of green hotels or eco-friendly hotels, sustainable tourism and environmentally-friendly holidays. For years at Garden Hotels we have been pursuing respectful tourism, not only for the environment but also for the community in which our hotels are found so as to improve their natural and socio-economic condition.
Majorca is a prime example. Apart from being the birthplace of our brand, it is the destination in which we spend most of our time delving deeper into corporate responsibility policies related to this industry. We have signed lots of agreements with traditional and local farming producer associations and have also increased employment opportunities in less-favoured industries.
Our hotels in Majorca have been offering local cuisine for some time now. We try to be conscious of people who work on the fields of the island, striving to provide high-quality food and products, using traditional methods that form part of the island’s history.
All our buffet restaurants serve organic lamb, with the local certification seal of Me Ecològic. We also prioritise locally-made wine and crops, giving the name: “kilómetro 0”, through entities like the Organic Agricultural Production Association of Majorca (APAEMA) and Agroilla.
We do not just want to stop at agriculture; we want to go further and find associations that work to improve the lives of persons who have difficulty finding work or integrating into society.
As is the case of our work with the Amadip Esment foundation (a tutelary foundation for persons with intellectual disabilities), one of the most active and committed associations in Majorca. They offer us support and excellent high-quality work with their Amadip Impremta printing press and Forn Pes de Sa Palla oven as you can see in the video below:
As for the ecotourism industry itself, at Garden Hotels we have introduced systems for waste management and reduction of CO2 emissions, as well as methods for optimising our resources and saving energy and water.
