We’re sure that when you think of Ibiza, the first thing that springs to mind are the amazing beaches, parties at legendary nightclubs and a summer that never ends. It’s true that the largest of the Pityusic islands is renowned for its crystalline waters and white sand beaches, as well as the stunning parties attended by high society from all over the world and the glorious sunsets that make this one of the most popular destinations in summertime, and all that is true, but Ibiza is much, much more than all that.
Ibiza is history, heritage and nature. One of the places that best represents these three features is Santa Eulària del Riu. This beautiful area is found just 20 minutes away from Ibiza airport and boasts over two hundred kilometres of walking routes which take you through some amazing scenery along the coastline and inland. There are many interesting points along the way that will help visitors discover and understand a bit more about life in the past on the island.
It is precisely in Santa Eulària des Riu that Garden Hotels has its beautiful hotel, the Tropic Garden Hotel Apartments. Unmissable excursions in Santa Eulària des Riu
The Coastal Route from Sant Eulària des Riu to Es Canar is one of the most emblematic trails that you can follow. In just over 12 km it links the county capital with the tourist resort of Es Canar. You will undoubtedly want to see the various beaches and coves that are renowned for their beauty, such as the beach at Es Niu Blau; a stunning beach surrounded by a dense pine forest that contrasts sharply with the white sands and the bright blue water. Further along the route you will find one of the most important examples of the island’s heritage: the s’Argamassa aqueduct. This is an archaeological site of over 400 metres in length that dates from the Roman era that it is believed was used to transport water to a fishery.
Cala Martina is another beach you can discover along the way, well-known amongst lovers of kite surf or windsurf, thanks to the perfect water conditions and the wind. This beach also provides spectacular panoramic views of the islets of Illa Rodona and Santa Eulària.
Finally, Santa Eulària des Riu also offers the Gran Ruta, an itinerary designed to be done over 3-5 days, as it covers 65 kilometres and 14 different natural or touristic points of interest. The route starts at the Plaza España and heads south via the promenade along the coast. Some of the unmissable spots along the way include Cala Espart, the Camí des Pedrisset or the world-famous Las Dalias market, with over 300 unique stalls that will make it impossible not to purchase a souvenir of your holiday.
Staying at the Tropic Garden Hotel Apartments, in Santa Eulària des Riu, allows you to enjoy the real, unknown Ibiza. The Ibiza that so many fell in love with in the 60s and that continues to be one of the most beautiful and special islands in the Mediterranean.
