Aware that young people are key in leading a sustainable future, at Garden Hotels we continue to work to promote circularity, participating in the educational project Circular FP.
We are excited to tell you that this pioneering project was prepared and carried out thanks to the collaboration of two training centres (CIFP Juníper Serra and CIFP Río Tormes) and two companies; a hotel company (Garden Hotel) and a technology company (Innovation Training Center), and has been met with great acceptance among the young people who have participated. Through this initiative, we have been able to work side by side with students and teachers, with whom we have shared all our experience and knowledge in the field of circularity and sustainability.
Throughout the process, vocational students had the opportunity to experience first-hand the reality and practices related to the circular economy and sustainability. Different workshops were held on the creation of a step-by-step circular management strategy, the prevention and reduction of food waste and its reuse through the generation of compost. In addition, we conducted training sessions in our hotels to introduce them to one of our pilot innovation projects using artificial intelligence, which quantifies, identifies and monitors the food waste generated in our establishments. Guided tours were also organised to show VET students the composting plant in collaboration with the Sa Taulera estate. Our team, made up of professionals committed to these issues, has shared its knowledge and experience to give you a real and practical insight into the day-to-day work in these fields.
We are excited and it is a great responsibility to be able to contribute to the education of new generations among one of the most important remains for the present and future life of the planet.
Pioneers in sustainability in the Balearic Islands
At Garden Hotels, we were the first hotel chain in the Balearic Islands to transform the organic waste generated in our hotels into ecological and quality compost. Day after day, we revitalise organic farming and the local economy by offering 0 km products at our buffets: 95,000 kg are of Balearic origin. Every season we buy 3,000 kg of organic Mallorcan lamb and 20,000 kg of organic produce. All in all, we reduce environmental and transport costs and reduce the carbon footprint in the transport of organic material, and we eliminate the consumption of single-use plastics, saving 1.5 tonnes of plastic per season.
