June 5 is World Environment Day and we’ll be doing our bit once again this year at Garden Hotels. Read on to find out how.
At Garden Hotels, we take care of our land and our people. These aren’t just words; this idea is a fundamental part of our philosophy. Protecting the environment is one of our main concerns which is why it’s not just something we abide by in the day-to-day operations of our hotels, but we also remain loyal to this annual global event for just that, the protection of the environment.
How do we help celebrate World Environment Day? On Monday, June 5, we are once again organising a beach clean-up day and a microplastics workshop. What do we hope to achieve? Our goal is to raise awareness about the enormous amount of plastics on our beaches by picking up waste on the beach at Es Comù, in Muro, in the S’Albufera Nature Reserve.
Our establishment, Playa Garden Selection Hotel & Spa, is leading this action in collaboration with the Clean Boating association and students and teachers from the IES Alcúdia secondary school, through the European ‘We are Blue Schools!’ Project. The environmental management consultancy firm Sostenible XXI is also collaborating.
World Environment Day: Caring for what matters to us
We’ll start the day off by collecting microplastics from Es Comù beach, which is located in the S’Albufera Nature Reserve, the largest wetland area in the Balearic Islands. With this initiative, the Marnoba platform hopes that, thanks to citizen science, anyone can help to locate marine debris on the beaches and seabed along our coastline, in this case in the Mediterranean.
After a hard day’s work for the sake of the environment, it’ll be time to get our strength back again. What better than a well-deserved buffet lunch at the Snack Bar of the Playa Garden Selection Hotel & Spa, courtesy of our hotel.
With our batteries well and truly recharged, we’ll continue the day with a dynamic activity led by Garden Hotels’ Sustainability department which they’ve decided to call “DO’s and DON’Ts”, in which we’ll show you all we do at Garden Hotels to help the fight against the use of plastics. and You’ll also learn what each and every one of us can do to reduce our plastic footprint on the planet.
And as a grand finale to the celebration of this green day par excellence, you’ll have the chance to take part in a creativity workshop led by Clean Boating and our animation team, in which we’ll put microplastics collected from beaches in Majorca to good use.
