At Garden Hotels, our commitment to sustainability and the fight against climate change remains a top priority. In line with this commitment, we have taken a significant step by installing photovoltaic solar energy systems for self-consumption on the roofs of several of our hotels. An initiative that not only contributes to the reduction of our CO2 emissions, but also brings us closer to a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
The installed solar power installation, which reaches 858 kWp, is already present in most Garden Hotels premises. To put this into perspective, this amount of energy is enough to power approximately 343 households for a whole year or to charge an electric car with a 60 kWh battery about 20,017 times. This is equivalent to a travelling about 4.8 million kilometres at a range of 240 km per charge. Almost nothing!
These panels are now proudly displayed at the top of Playa Garden Selection Hotel & Spa, Alcudia Garden Aparthotel, Palm Garden Apartments, Green Garden Aparthotel, Cala Millor Garden Hotel, Garden Holiday Village, Tropic Garden Hotel Apartments, Marinda Garden Aparthotel, HYB Eurocalas and Garden Playanatural Hotel & Spa.
Solar power for change
Thanks to these installations, Approximately 1201 MWh of renewable energy is expected to be generated per year, the equivalent of cutting 502 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. This significant reduction in our carbon footprint is an important step towards mitigating the effects of climate change. This is similar to planting around 23,000 trees, as one adult tree can absorb approximately 22 kg of CO2 per year. Or to avoid the annual emissions of about 108 petrol cars, taking into account that one car emits around 4.6 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The project has been made possible thanks to funding provided by NextGeneration funds under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, supported by the European Union. The transition to solar photovoltaics represents a significant step forward in our efforts to reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources. By generating our own renewable energy, we not only reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, but also contribute to the sustainability of the natural environment at the destinations in which we operate.
Furthermore, this commitment to renewable energy strengthens our position as a leader in sustainability within the hotel sector. This means our guests can enjoy their stay, fully aware that their choice of accommodation actively supports environmental protection.
We continue to explore new ways to improve our energy efficiency and reduce our environmental impact. This is why we would like to invite our guests and the wider community to join us on this journey towards a greener future. Together, we can make a difference.
