When you’re on holiday, there’s one item that is an absolute must for the perfect combination of relaxation and fun in the sea or pool: the popular inflatable lilo. Have you heard of the RENETAS Project? In this post we tell you how you can contribute to recycling this summer essential and caring for the environment during your holiday.
Just like its millions of other visitors, we’re sure that you chose the Balearic Islands as your holiday destination because of the fabulous light, paradisiacal beaches and landscapes, an authentic oasis for rest and relaxation. At Garden Hotels we fully appreciate that the nature around us is priceless and an essential source of life. For this reason, and as pioneers in the circular economy, protecting it is one of our prime objectives. Have you ever stopped to think about the thousands of tons of holiday waste that are generated? And did you know that the materials these lilos are made of – vinyl or PVC – are difficult to recycle and are categorised as tourism industry waste, because it’s the hotels that take responsibility for their collection and management?
We turn lilos into bags, toilet bags, pencil cases and aprons
Aware of the need to care for our environment, Garden Hotels has joined the RENETAS project (collection and recovery of lilos in the hotel sector). This initiative, launched by the Playa de Muro Hotel Association, will run between May and September and aims to improve sustainability and circularity of all the hotels in Playa de Muro. In our case, the Playa Garden Selection Hotel & Spa and Garden Holiday Village hotels are taking part in the project. How? By recovering, recycling and giving new use and value to these unwanted lilos in the form of bags, toilet bags, pencil cases and aprons, amongst other items. You too can take part in these actions in favour of the environment and care for the destination you have chosen for your well-earned break: our staff will explain to you just how important it is not to simply dispose of these items once your holiday is over. At Garden Hotels we make it easy for you by setting up specific collection points for lilos. We also provide our staff with ongoing training in environmental issues to continue helping to protect the planet we call home.
